Do you have credit card facilities?
Yes. You can also pay by cheque (made out to JK & JD Henery), cash, or by Direct Debit on your Internet Banking (details for direct debit: BSB 035 065, Account Number 172671, Account Name JK & JD Henery).
How do I get to Alpana Station?
The best way here is on the sealed road from Hawker, past Wilpena and up towards Blinman. We are on the left (west) side of the road 5km before you get to Blinman. There's an Alpana sign 1km before our turnoff as well as signs at the turnoff. You could also drive up to Parachilna and drive through the Parachilna Gorge to Blinman then turn south on the Flinders Ranges Way and go 5km along to our turnoff but please note the Parachilna Gorge road is steep and often pretty rough, especially if you are towing.
How far off the Flinders Ranges Way is the powered site and quarters area?
About 300m.
Can I get to Alpana in a standard car?
Yes, easily, see above.
Can I get to Nungawurtina Hut in a standard car?
No, you require a high clearance vehicle to get to the Hut because of the rocky track and dry creek crossings.
Can I get to your bush camping areas with my standard car and van?
Our Bill's Paddock camping area is accessible by standard cars and vans but our Horseyards camping area requires high clearance vehicles and off road vans. See the Camp and Caravan section of our website for more information on our bush camping options.
Is there any public transport to Alpana?
No. Premier Stateliner runs daily buses from Adelaide to Port Augusta. Private transport is required from there.
Do I need to bring my own bedding to the quarters or Nungawurtina Hut?
Most of our guests do. The quarter's beds are comfortable and have a good mattress and protector on each. We supply pillows on request and you can hire our linen/bedding for $35 per bed, one-off fee. The bedding pack hire includes a top sheet, a bottom sheet, a pillow and slip, a wool quilt with poly/cotton cover, and a towel.
The Nungawurtina Hut has 3 bunk beds (sleeps 6) that have firm foam mattresses and a protector on each. We do not offer bedding hire for the Hut.
Is there 24 hour power at the quarters or the powered sites?
Yes, from a community generator in Blinman, so while it is 24 hour power and 240V please be mindful that it is still a limited supply.
Is there a double bed at the quarters or the Nungawurtina Hut?
Nungawurtina Hut offers only single beds. The shearers' quarters has one double bed but the other 13 beds are singles.
Is there a shower at Nungawurtina Hut?
Yes, as from Feb 2021 Nungawurtina Hut now has a unique gas instant hot water camp shower. There's also a hand basin outside the hut we call the birdbath, and a pit toilet.
How many does Nungawurtina Hut sleep?
6 inside on three bunk beds but there's room for tents etc around the Hut.
How many does the Alpana shearers' quarters sleep?
15 inside (6 x twin share rooms, 1 x double bed with single bunk above).
Do you supply firewood?
We supply firewood for the quarters and powered sites and some inside wood for the Nungawurtina Hut. We do not supply firewood for campers or for the outside fire at the Hut. For a booking for a big group of campers we may supply firewood for a fee on request.
Can we collect firewood?
Yes. Fallen wood only. No chainsaws please.
How many groups do you book in the Horseyards campground area?
Maximum of 4 groups. There is at least 300m between sites, so each group has heaps of space.
Is Alpana Station Pet Friendly?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your pets when staying at the camping and powered site areas, the Ensuite powered sites, and Nungawurtina Hut. They may be off lead but must be under your control at all times, and of course you must clean up after them. No pets are allowed at the Shearers’ Quarters.
Is there Mobile Phone coverage or Internet Access at Alpana?
No... consider it an opportunity to switch off and have a technology de-tox! Blinman, our nearest town 5km north, has full Optus & Telstra coverage. There's also a FREE Telstra public phone in the Blinman main street.
Where is the nearest dump point for my van's cassette?
Wilpena Pound 60km. Leigh Creek 105km.
Can I fill my tank or container with water?
Yes. You can fill up with bore water, no charge, or top up with our pristine Flinders Ranges rain water for $5 per 10L approx.. Enquire at Reception.
